What is Ear Acupuncture:

Ear Acupuncture, also known as auricular therapy uses points on the ear to regulate the body's internal organs and functions. Ear Acupuncture is often used for addiction treatments, mood disorders, weight management and pain.

How Acupuncture works:

Oriental Explanation:

Energy flowing through the body is called Qi (pronounced chee.) Qi can be influenced and balanced by stimulating acupuncture points on the body. The points are located along channels of energy called meridians which connect all our major organs. Illness or pain arises when the flow of energy (Qi) becomes unbalanced or obstructed.

Western Explanation:

Acupuncture points are located in areas of electrical sensitivity. Acupuncture needles stimulate the sensory receptors and nerves that transmit impulses to the brain. This results in the release of neurotransmitters and endorphins. Endorphins reduce pain and can influence the hormonal system. Therefore, acupuncture not only works well for back pain, arthritis, menopause and infertility. Acupuncture has been found to increase circulation, decrease inflammation, relieve pain, relieve muscle spasms and stimulate the immune system.

What to expect from Acupuncture Visits:

During your first office visit, the doctor will ask you about your health condition, lifestyle, and behaviors.

People experience acupuncture differently, but most feel no or minimal pains as the needles are inserted. Some people feel energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed. Improper needle placement, movement of the patient, or a defect in the needle can cause soreness and pain during treatment. This is why it is important to seek treatment from a qualified acupuncturist.

Treatment may take place over a period of several weeks or more, depending upon the condition being treated

Treatment costs:

Ask the doctor about the estimated number of treatments needed and how much each treatment will cost. Some insurance companies may cover the costs of acupuncture, while others may not. If you have insurance coverage, check with your insurer before to see whether acupuncture is covered for your condition.
